My research aims at providing data and resources for improving teacher education in both geography/ social studies (called RZG in Switzerland) and ethics-religions-community (ERG).
I develop assessment instruments and analyze the resulting data. The assessments deal for instance with content knowledge, concepts, pedagogical content knowledge, systemic/ spatial thinking skills, interest and teacher beliefs. I have developed assessments for diverse learners – from kindergarten students to adults. At the moment, I focus especially on teacher education.
I also develop learning materials. In that area, I deal especially with hands-on models and digital media such as GIS, learning platforms or wikis.
The third focus of my research deals with the role of spatial examples and other choices in teacher education.
